Chris’ fabrics are the outward expression of a very rich, earthbound creative process. First as a painter, and for the past 30 years as a textile artist, her personal artistic narrative has centered on intuitively seeing extraordinary design potential in ordinary natural objects and translating that into beautiful cloth. It is this personal experience that resonates in her work and expresses a universal and timeless quality.
Chris was born in Hillsdale, Michigan and raised in Detroit. She studied drawing and painting at Michigan State University, earning BA and MA degrees in Art Education. After teaching high school art for 20 years, she opened her professional design studio in Lansing, MI In 1990.
Chris, a nationally recognized textile artist is best known for her one-of-a-kind jackets. Her award-winning work was selected for exhibit and sale at prestigious shows, museums and galleries throughout the country, including the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Chris is now returning to her roots as a painter to create “textile paintings" with small pieces of her own fabrics using original fusing and layering techniques. Drawing upon her fine arts background, she combines intricate patterns and colors in new combinations that dance and flow drawing us into the delicate rhythms of the universe.
